Daizong Liu
Mr. Liu Daizong currently serves as the East Asia Director of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). He has over two decades of experience in Urban Sustainable Development Strategy, Planning, and Design, as well as Sustainable Transportation Development Policy, Planning, and Design. Mr. Liu's vast expertise extends from his role as Director of the Sustainable Cities Department and Communications Director at the World Resources Institute (WRI) China. His remarkable contributions have earned him a reputation as a trusted authority in the field.
Mr. Liu's influence reaches various international organizations and advisory roles. Notable achievements include serving as a visiting professor at the School of Architecture and Landscape of Peking University in 2022, and as a founding member of the United Nations Consultative Transportation Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). In 2020, he received the first Global Green Finance Award for his project "the Chilean new energy bus international bidding procurement and financing model innovation." His prominence as a renowned public speaker on sustainable city issues is underscored by his compelling talk on "Street for All," which garnered over 5,000,000 views on Yixi, a top Chinese Ted-talk style speech platform.
Karim Fahssis
Karim Fahssis leads Maersk's decarbonization efforts in China. As a global provider of end-to-end logistics services with the ambition to achieve carbon net zero transport by 2040, Mr. Fahssis plays a pivotal role in Maersk's mission. His primary focus is on securing green methanol production and sourcing in China, ensuring timely delivery for Maersk's new vessels. He also provides crucial guidance to Maersk’s landside department on their decarbonization journey.
With a background in energy engineering and entrepreneurship, Mr. Fahssis brings substantial experience in renewable energy projects to his role. His strong technical background and comprehensive understanding of decarbonization concepts and standards make him a valuable asset in the field. As a French national and resident of China since 2005, his fluency in Chinese and double master’s degree in mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics from Centrale Nantes engineering school (France) and energy management from the Xi’an Jiaotong University (China) uniquely position him as an expert in sustainable transportation strategies.
Mr. Fahssis's innovative spirit was acknowledged by the MIT Technology Review when he was awarded the title of "Innovator of the year 2014" for introducing disruptive software technologies to the global wind energy industry, focusing on prospecting superior resource sites and delivering bankable energy yield assessments.
