BUSINESS CONFIDENCE SURVEY RESULTS RELEASE AND TWO-SESSIONS POLICY ANALYSIS
After three years of the pandemic, business landscape is starting to return towards normal here in China, and GDP growth target is set to around 5.0% for 2023. However there are still other clouds in the sky as the geopolitical situation remains challenging. How do Finnish companies see the situation in China now? Is it stabile enough to resume the investments which have been on hold? What were the measures taken to overcome challenges?
BUSINESS CONFIDENCE SURVEY RESULTS RELEASE - HYBRID
In this year's Finnish Business Confidence Survey Finnish companies across China participated and provided insights on the market conditions and expectations for 2023. This survey is the most comprehensive Finnish Business Confidence Survey in China to date, highlighting the importance of peer review and challenges companies face while operating in this uncertain economic situation.
The 2023 Finnish Business Confidence Survey was carried out jointly by Team Finland China to better understand the business environment for Finnish and Finland-related companies in Greater China.
The launch event will be opened by Ambassador Leena-Kaisa Mikkola.
Analysis on the survey will be presented by Business Finland Country Director Marko Tiesmaki.
After result analysis we have organized a panel discussion to reflect on the results. The panel will be moderated by Satu Kalliokulju, Senior Adviser, Foresight Asia at Business Finland, and the panelists include

TWO-SESSIONS POLICY ANALYSIS – MEMBER ONLY - OFFLINE
China has convened its national legislature and top political advisory body the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing starting from the 4th and 5th March 2023 respectively.
Known as the 'Two Sessions' (Lianghui), these around two-week-long annual meetings are attended by delegates and party members from across the country and the outcomes of the Two Sessions will show direction to China in political and economic issues, also including framework for environmental and sociopolitical issues etc. The Two Sessions are of high interest to the international business community as it will set China's political and economic precedent for the rest of the year.
This year's event will be the first after China dropped its three-year-old Covid-19 restrictions. It will see a major reshuffle of top government jobs including the premier. President Xi Jinping, who will continue for third term as general secretary of the CCP and chairman of the military commission and is set to continue for a third term as president at the two sessions too.

Leena-Kaisa Mikkola was appointed to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Beijing, starting on 1 September 2021. She moved to Beijing from the Ministry’s Department for Africa and the Middle East, where she has worked as Director General since 2017. In 2016–2017, she served as Senior Adviser responsible for monitoring the situation in Syria. In 2011–2016, Mrs Mikkola worked as Finland’s Ambassador in Tel Aviv. Her career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels and the Embassies of Finland in Canberra, Athens and Budapest. Mrs Mikkola joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1992. She holds a Master of Laws degree.

Marko Tiesmäki is the Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Finland in Beijing and the Greater China Country Director at Business Finland. He is driving the strategic development of the trade ecosystem, which aims at facilitating communication and collaboration between Chinese and Finnish stakeholders. This includes maintaining ongoing dialogue with government bodies and industry associations to foster closer economic and business ties between the two countries.
Having worked in the Asia Pacific region for over 15 years, Marko has in-depth and on-the-ground understanding of local markets. His over three decades of work experience covers multiple industries, such as ICT, telecommunications, clean-tech, electronics, manufacturing, and testing.
Before joining Business Finland in the end of 2021, he held leadership positions at companies of different scales and industries, helping them to navigate through operational transitions and tapping on new international growth opportunities. Most of his career Marko has spent with large multinationals, such as Nokia and Airbus Defense and Space, but he has also gained nearly 10 years of CEO experience with a number of Finnish SME’s operating in Asia-Pacific and China.
