Environmental Law Enforcement and Impact on Supply Chains

According to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, 186 000 environmental violations had been punished in 2018 with fines totalling 15 billion yuan, increasing 32% from the year before. And it is anticipated that Chinese Government will keep a high pressure of environmental protection for a long-term.

Since the new Law of Environmental Protection was enacted in 2015, a series of regulations and implementing measures have been issued to facilitate the enforcement. For example, the expanded scale of eligible plaintiffs in environmental lawsuits and possibility of huge amount compensation to victims will expose companies in great environmental risks. Other stricter regulations or measures also requires companies to improve their capacity of managing environmental risks and disclosing data. These development and trends will have significant impact on business operation of both foreign companies and their suppliers in China.

At the seminar, experts from academia/law firm, consultancy and non-governmental organization will give their insights on strategies and solutions that companies could take to manage environmental risks in their business and supply chains in China.
